ABOUT ME

Lydia James – Womenswear Designer

I’m a Womenswear Designer with over four years of industry experience, currently working on the Zara Woman Denim team, where I specialise in innovative washes, dyes, and contemporary fits. Prior to this, I was part of the team at Mother of Pearl as Development and Production Co-ordinator, focusing on elevated basics and eventwear across fluid wovens, denim, and tailoring.

I graduated with a First Class BA in Fashion from Kingston School of Art, specialising in Women’s Knitwear and Denim. My final collection was awarded ‘Outstanding Womenswear’ at the 2022 Kingston BA Press Show.

After completing my Internship with Mother of Pearl, I was fortunate to be offered a role in the industry while still completing my degree and collection—an experience that strengthened my skills in time management, adaptability, and creative problem-solving. Balancing academic deadlines with professional responsibilities has sharpened my work ethic and organisation.

My design voice is shaped by my personal interests: I grew up in London and continue to draw inspiration from the city’s cultural diversity and energy. Music, film, theatre, and literature are integral to my creative process, as are the relationships that have grounded me—especially the bond I share with my sisters.

Thank you for viewing my portfolio—I’d love to connect!
